Location: Dallas, TX
Pay Rate: $20/hour
Schedule: Open Monday through Saturday, evening and weekend shifts are expected
Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and customer-focused Library Public Service Specialist I to join our team in Dallas. This role focuses on providing excellent information reference and referral assistance to library users, supporting customers with technology, and ensuring patrons informational and recreational needs are met.
Key Responsibilities

Assist library customers in locating information and answering reference questions using the library catalog, databases, and internet resources.

Provide guidance on library procedures, including obtaining library cards, checking out materials, and using computers, internet, and other library technologies.

Build relationships with library patrons, community members, and local organizations.

Recommend books, movies, and other materials tailored to patrons interests.

Offer personalized assistance with computer use and job-seeking efforts.

Develop and present promotional displays, reading lists, and materials.

Assist in planning and delivering library programs and community outreach initiatives.

Act as the branch or unit supervisor in the absence of the building manager.

Maintain and develop collections in assigned subject areas.

Support library operations, including shelving, checking in materials, and providing curbside services as needed.

Ensure the library remains neat, clean, and organized.

Stay informed on current library trends and issues to provide high-quality service.

Travel between locations as required to meet staffing needs.
Requirements
-
Two (2) years of frontline customer service or library services experience.

Bachelor s degree in English, Library Sciences, History, or a related field or an associate degree/60 college credit hours with four (4) years of full-time frontline customer service experience may also meet the requirement

Proficiency in research techniques and library policies.

Ability to handle conflicts effectively and provide excellent customer service.

Strong organizational, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, internet applications, library catalog systems, and databases.

Ability to relate to a diverse community and engage with customers of all ages.

Bilingual skills, especially in Spanish, are highly desirable.

Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
