Job Title: Senior Medical Billing & Collections Specialist
Pay Range: $20.00-$21.50/hr
Location: Houston, TX 77008
Schedule: Monday Friday, standard business hours
Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented Senior Medical Billing & Collections Specialist to manage the resolution of outstanding medical accounts receivable. In this role, you will handle medical collections, account follow-ups, denials management, and claims resolution while ensuring compliance with client, state, and federal guidelines. You will work directly with patients, insurance providers, reimbursement vendors, and other external entities to facilitate timely payments and minimize aged accounts.
Key Responsibilities:

Perform collection activities related to hospital and professional claims, including governmental and non-governmental claims, denied claims, and high-priority accounts.

Manage multiple work queues for claims follow-up and denials resolution, utilizing payer websites and initiating calls to secure prompt payments.

Research and resolve aged accounts receivable through follow-ups, appeals, and collaboration with payers.

Engage with coding teams and clinical staff to address medical necessity appeals and coding-related denials.

Identify and report denial trends to supervisors and recommend resolution strategies to prevent payment delays.

Communicate professionally with insurance payers, patients, and internal teams via phone, email, and other channels.

Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and maintain accuracy in all billing and collection processes.

Meet departmental performance standards for quality and productivity while maintaining a cooperative and positive attitude.
Qualifications:

Minimum 3 years of experience in a customer service call center within healthcare billing/collections or a medical collection agency environment.

Strong knowledge of hospital accounts receivable (A/R), revenue cycle processes, and medical claims resolution.

Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel and ability to navigate payer websites and billing systems.

Experience in insurance claims processing and denials management preferred.

College education, insurance company claims experience, or healthcare billing trade school education may be considered in lieu of hospital experience.
